I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Light Between Us: Stories from Heaven. Lessons for the Living. When I started reading it, I thought I was searching for proof of an afterlife. After a few chapters, I let the notion of scientific proof slide and allowed myself to become emotionally reeled in by the love-filled stories in the book. I cried, I laughed, I held my breath and I felt empathy for those who have lost loved ones and for Ms. Jackson herself.Though I enjoyed the whole book, I have two favorite chapters. In the first one, The Bonsai Tree, Ms. Jackson discusses the idea of free will versus predeterminism. She suggests that our lives include some of both. With regard to our direction in life, she says that the other side has shown her that, “If we honor our truths, our unique gifts, and our own light, we create a very beautiful picture indeed. And if we consistently do this, we find ourselves on our true path.”In my second favorite chapter, Entanglement, Ms. Jackson discusses the idea that we never alone. She believes that we are constantly making connections that we don’t realize exist and that, in fact, we are all connected. To illustrate this, she tells a touching story of a generous young man named Kyle.The book flows so well that it could easily be read in one or two sittings. I think that there is a lot to be gained by reading it at a slower pace and allowing oneself to more fully absorb the messages Ms. Jackson is offering to the reader. I’m looking forward to following Ms. Jackson’s story. I really enjoyed this book partly because she touches on what quantum physicists have proven - that consciousness never dies. Laura, and people like her, all happen to have bigger built-in antenna's that allow them to easily pick up the 'frequency' of the Other Side and then relay the messages to those of us who are still plugged in to "analog" channels. :-) I also enjoyed how she made it easy to empathize with her as she struggled to accept and work with her gift. I have a hard enough time dealing with the one chatterbox voice in my head - imagine trying to deal with dozens of voices blah-blahing in your ear at once! No wonder she thought she was crazy at times.This is a gentle and thoughtful book but packs a punch after you finish it....because you'll find yourself really thinking about who we are, why we're here and where we're going when we're done.
